Many of us have confided in others during dark times, and vice versa. But it can feel awkward, if not downright frightening, not knowing what to do when a loved one or a peer shows suicide warning signs.

Developed by Forefront Suicide Prevention, the five simple and effective LEARN® steps empower individuals to help others move in the direction of hope, recovery, and survival. This intervention framework is a way to integrate information on the safe storage of lethal means – and remove the dangers when someone is at-risk for suicide.

In the 90 minute training, Forefront staff will provide an overview of suicide in our community and how we can help our loved ones who may be at risk for suicide seek help. Our primary focus is to train audiences on the LEARN steps in depth: look for signs, empathy, asking, reducing danger, and next steps. Resources, practice scenarios, and soft skill tools will be provided to the audience throughout the training. Participants will have the opportunity to practice these skills through brief role plays and dialogue around suicide prevention, as well ask questions of the trainer.
